Mink

Description

Mink, also sometimes called American Mink or Mock Mink, to distinguish it from the genetically distinct and earlier-standardized UK Mink, is an attractive brown color. The more clarity you get genetically, the darker the color is, until it is nearly the color of "black" coffee. It has a distinct blue-grey sheen to the top coat, and the color goes down to the skin. Eyes should be black.

Genetics

a/a m/m

Genetically, a Black rat carrying two recessive copies of the Mink gene. Mink is very susceptible to alteration in tone and shade by carried recessives, so when breeding for Mink rats, it is best to clear out all other recessives as much as possible.

Mink and its dilutes are the only colors on which a Pearl gene will visibly express.
