Description

 

A Bareback is a Hooded rat without the long spine-stripe. The body and feet of the rat should be completely white, free from spots, speckling or mottled edges, while the head, shoulders, chin and throat of the rat should be colored. A Headspot or Blaze are allowable.

 

Genetics

A double recessive on the Hooded (H) locus, but with extra modifiers which have not been genetically described, which remove the spine-stripe from the Hooded rat.

"Bareback rats may be shown in any recognized color and will have markings like the Hooded rat but without a spine marking. The back, sides, legs, and feet should be a pure, clean white, free from spots or brindling. The hood should cover the head, neck and shoulders without a break, showing no white on top of head, throat or chin, and should run in an even line around the body."

"To be marked similar to a hooded rat without the spine line. The back, sides, legs and feet and tail should be a pure, clean white, free from spots or brindling. The hood should cover the head, neck and shoulders without a break, showing no white on the head, throat or chin, and should run in an even line around the body. The color shall conform to a recognized color."

"The head, shoulders, neck and throat of the rat to be of any standardized color, while the feet, sides, back, belly and tail should be completely white with no spots or colored hairs. The line of demarcation between color and white should be as even and sharp as possible."
