A Bareback is a Hooded rat without the long spine-stripe. The body and feet of the rat should be completely white, free from spots, speckling or mottled edges, while the head, shoulders, chin and throat of the rat should be colored. A Headspot or Blaze are allowable.

A double recessive on the Hooded (H) locus, but with extra modifiers which have not been genetically described, which remove the spine-stripe from the Hooded rat.
